An engineer in vineyards
As opposed to his ancestors (high-ranking officers in
the French army and industrialists who only paid serious
attention to the estate once they had retired) Baron
Louis-Gabriel de Jerphanion decided to call a halt to
his career in aeronautical and petroleum engineering
in 1980 to look after the family estates.
These consist of Château Moncets in Lalande de
Pomerol (the wine is also sold by Bordeaux merchants
under the name of Château Gardour) and Château
La Bastidette (Montagne Saint-Emilion).
Since he took over the estate, Louis-Gabriel de Jerphanion
has increased the area under vine by a third, while
maintaining quality as more of a priority than ever.
His wine is produced with the greatest of care, in the
most traditional way possible: ageing in oak barrels,
racking with a bellows, fining with egg whites, light
filtration, etc.
